Earthenware is a ceramic material generally used for larger home decorative products. Cookie Jars, large bowls and platters would all be good choices to use this material. After firing, the product is glazed and fired again. Decorative color in the form of ceramic decal or ceramic hand painting are just a start to the many decorative techniques that can be used. Because it is not completely dense, Earthenware is able to deliver larger products will less distortion than porcelain.
Open Weave Basket Bowl
This is a perfect example of how earthenware is best used to form a larger detailed item. Because earthenware shrinks very little during firing, the delicate hand piercings can withstand several high temperature firings without warping or cracking.
King Frog
The decoration incorporates two layers of color applied to the fired earthenware body. A clear high fire crackle glaze is applied over the color surface to add an interesting finish. A golden crown adds the finishing touch. The gold color was produced by vapor deposition over the ceramic.
Perfect Geometry
This is a 15" tall rectangular item having measurements that are almost precise from top to bottom. This is another example of how Earthenware should be used when accurate proportions are important.
